% OPEN AREA = (1-ND) (1-nd) x 100

N = Wires Per Inch in Warp
n = Wires Per Inch in Shute
D = Diameter of Warp Wire
d = Diameter of Shute Wire

EXAMPLE 1
Assume the following:
24 warp wires per inch
70 shute wires per inch
The warp wire diameter is 0.015"
The shute wire diameter is 0.010"

1   Multiply the warp wire count (N) by the warp diameter (D). 24 x 0.015 = 0.360
2   Subtract the result above from 1. 1 - 0.360 = 0.640
3   Multiply the  shute wire count (n) by the shute diameter (d). 70 x 0.010 = 0.70
4   Subtract the result above from 1. 1 - 0.70 = 0.30
5   Multiply the result from step 2 by the result from step 4. 0.64 x 0.30 = 0.19
5   Multiply the result above by 100 to covert to a percentage. 0.19 x 100 = 19%

EXAMPLE 2
Assume the following:
72 warp wires per inch
36 shute wires per inch
The warp wire diameter is 0.008"
The shute wire diameter is 0.07"

1   Multiply the warp wire count (N) by the warp diameter (D). 72 x 0.008 = 0.576
2   Subtract the result above from 1. 1 - 0.576 = 0.424
3   Multiply the shute wire count (n) by the shute diameter (d). 36 x 0.013 = 0.468
4   Subtract the result above from 1. 1 - 0.468 = 0.532
5   Multiply the result from step 2 by the result from step 4. 0.424 x 0.532 = 0.225
5   Multiply the result above by 100 to covert to a percentage. 0.225 x 100 = 22.5%
