EXAMPLE 1     40 x 40 Mesh, 0.010"
To determine the open area of 40 Mesh, 0.010" Wire Diameter
 
1   Multiply the Mesh Count x Wire Diameter. 40 x 0.010 = 0.400
2   Subtract the result above from 1. 1 - 0.400 = 0.600
3   Square the above result (multiply by itself). 0.600 x 0.600 = 0.36
4   Multiply the result by 100. 100 x 0.36 = 36
5   The solution should be expressed as as: 36%
 
 
EXAMPLE 2     100 x 100 Mesh, 0.0045"
To determine the open area of 100 Mesh, 0.0045" Wire Diameter
 
1   Multiply the Mesh Count x Wire Diameter. 100 x 0.0045 = 0.45
2   Subtract the result above from 1. 1 - 0.450 = 0.55
3   Square the above result (multiply by itself). 0.55 x 0.55 = 0.3025
4   Multiply the result by 100. 100 x 0.3025 = 30.25
5   The solution should be expressed as as: 30.25%
