Attic and Crawl Space Bug Screening are common woven wire cloth "exclusion" applications. With a proven history of performance Galvanized Soffit vent screen is a specification group utilized by industrial and residential building contractors in most applications.

While we do not offer these specifications in retail or end user quantities, the products described on this  page are generally available at hardware stores, home improvement centers and building supply outlets.

As you will note in the table above, the standard galvanized soffit vent bug screen  specifications include two aperture choices, 0.224" and 0.108".  Either opening will exclude rodents, birds and squirrels but neither can prevent insect infestation.  For finer insect level exclusion, standard insect screen specifications can be applied inside the primary vent screen. 

Any reduction of open area should be avoided without the advice of your architect or builder.

When larger pests such as rats, squirrels, bats, birds, skunks and snakes are no threat, a single layer of this new product provides insect level exclusion down to 0.026" in addition to reasonable open area.

If the exclusion of larger bugs is the objective, the screen specification should be strong enough to exclude rodents and birds with the aperture (opening) in the area of 0.060" which will prevent entry of most small pests.  When utilizing smaller apertures, consider the reduction of open area, additional screen area (vents) may be required.

 

When planning allows, continuous roof or perimeter screens can provide substantial useable ventilation area, allowing a higher allowable reduction in the percentage of open area available through the screen.
